Rough Drafts and Smooth Sailings

Hey, I am working on a play. Here is a scene. It still has a few errors, but I hope you like it. Tell me what you think....

Scenes from "The Fever and His Fury"
"Goodbye"

Aaron

I knew you’d come

Sarah

Where else would I go?

Aaron

I need you to come this last time.

Sarah

You always needed me.

Aaron

And I always will

Sarah

I’m leaving.

Aaron

When will you be back?

Sarah

You don’t get it do you? There’s no coming back. I’m leaving Salston for good, forever.

Aaron

Have space for one more?

(He hands her a rose that he had been concealing)

Sarah

I wish… I wish things were different. I wish we were still just kids and things were all roses and dandelions.

Aaron

You loved roses.

Sarah

No you loved roses.

(She holds the rose to her chest and smells its aroma)

Aaron

I loved you. Did you love me?

Sarah

How could you ask that? After all this, how could you ask that?

Aaron

How could you leave me? Sarah… Sarah I was lost. This is where it is for me, this is where I’m suppose to be with you. Why can’t you see that?

Sarah

How could you even ask that? I came didn’t I? I could be killed for this. You could be killed for this.

(Aaron moves closer and presses himself to her back side)

Aaron

I would die for this.

(Sarah pushes Aaron off)

Sarah

I have to go soon. Cordelius is waiting.

Aaron

That’s it? You and General Green just ride off into the sunset.

Sarah

He thinks I’m in my room packing, if he finds that I’ve left without telling him there’s no telling how he’ll react. Especially if he finds me with you.

(Aaron turns away slowly, not listening.)

Aaron

Then this is the part of the fairy tale where you and Prince Charming fly off to your new kingdom over the mountain eh? That is how you planned it right?

Sarah

You know it’s not like that.

Aaron

Then what’s it like? What’s it take? I’ll do whatever it takes. I’ll be your man servant! Hire me as a servant before you leave. I’ll carry his bag, and say “yes sir”, “no sir”, and clean his guns and shine his boots in the living room. I’ll prepare his meals and wash the floors, as you two dance in the dining halls of palaces, as you bear his children. I’ll hold doors for his officers and hang coats. Just to be near you, just to see you in the morning. To hear you hum a tune, to smell you when you pass.

(His arms fall to his side, and he starts to tear)

Sarah

Aaron stop! Do you hear yourself? Why are you saying these things, do you want to hurt me?

Aaron

Or I’ll stow away in one of the luggage cabins. I’ll hide in the woods during your journey when you stop to rest. I’ll meet you in dark corridors…

Sarah

Cordy is a good man.

Aaron

Cordy?

Sarah

Cordelious. Cordelious is a good man, and he’s my only way out of here. He deserves better than a whore wife. Don’t you see he’s my only way out and he’s a good man…

Aaron

And what am I?

Sarah

You’re a carpenter’s son. I have to go.

(Aaron moves closer to her, they stare into each other’s eyes intensely, they stand close enough to kiss. Neither of them appear to be fighting they’re bodies attraction. They barly kiss when there is a sound heard from off-stage.)

Quickly hide!

(Aaron runs off of the stage. Enters Soldier)

Soldier

Lady Sarah, what are you doing here? The general said you were packing, we leave immediately.

Sarah

I just needed a breath of fresh air. I was getting a last walk around town before I said good bye forever.

Soldier

You said you hated this town I’d thought that you‘d be excited to leave.

Sarah

I am excited to leave, but this is still all I know.

(She stops for a moment and looks off stage in the direction Aaron left)

Well, no use dawdling around here any longer. Will you accompany back to house, please?

Soldier

Yes ma’am.

(And with a little salute he turns to leave exit Soldier and Sarah)

You're definitely right about that. I remember my sister playing a Cee-lo album when she used to pick me up from school in the fourth grade. He wasn't as well known back then, the majority of his popularity coming from the hip hop community. But with the combination of him and the underrated but amazing producer Danger Mouse, Gnarls barkley has really made a name for them both. I am not really into mainstream music, but it's good to see talented artists at the top of the charts.

Thanks for the comment.

Cool blog.
