To Ask Nothing, To Expect Nothing, To Depend On Nothing

Freedom From Want
"What if you found something you wanted?"
"I won't find it. I won't choose to see it . It would be part of that lovely world of yours. I'd have to share it with all the rest of you- and wouldn't. You know, I never open again any great book I've read and loved. It hurts me to think of the other eyes that have read it and of what they were. Things like that can't be shared. Not with people like that."
- Dominique Francon (The Fountainhead)

What Would You Do For A Million Dollars.
What do they want? What do men want? What do women want? What do you want? Our wants differ from person to person. But often time we want the same things. It's the things we want that have power over us. How do you feel when you don't get what you want? If you have a job and you really need it, the boss holds a sort of whip over you, ya know? The whip of dependency! Powered by the fear of losing your j-o-b. The fear that makes you do whatever is asked, even when it is unreasonable. "Everything has strings leading to everything else. We're all so tied together. We're all in a net, the net is waiting and we're pushed into it by one single desire." (Ayn Rand) Do you believe that? Our system is set up for Capitalism- the pursuit of happiness. Money to most. What is money? What is currency? Currency used to be the trading of goats, and oxen and corn, and wheat, and daughters. Then currency became services and labor, then it became these gold pieces, paper pieces, computer #'s. What does the amount of money you have represent? I say it represents what everyone else thinks your ability to get what you want is... However some people lose them self to get that ability: Means. Some people lose all nobility and self-respect to get what they want. What would you do for a million dollars?

The cold words of Dominique Francon are true for those who live without compromise, but then again those who never share anything from the experiences they have encountered or some new thing they have discovered, continue to exist in a cold lonely world. That was her world, and the world for many people who live by her words.

WANT: to wish, crave, need, desire. I agree, those who want are seeking for that desire, and there exists someone who has it. However never allowing yourself to be subject to another's will. Never having a want, will you truly be free from others. Our wants and desires enslave us to the system that we are born into, a subtle yet unavoidable relationship with society that we must accept to coexist with. Currency, what we exchange as a measure of our ability to acquire wants, gives those who put value into it the ability to gage your capability to fulfill your wants. I say that if you place all your value into the pursuit of money, then enjoy what you buy yourself in life. Continue to strive to seek out and obtain money by many and any means and lose that self-respect as you sign life away to a contract to society. At the end of the day when you contemplate what you have accomplished, and ask yourself "am I proud of myself, was it all worth it all?" Know that the day you lost yourself, you lost it all.

So to answer the question, what would I do for a million dollars? I would have to answer much, I live in a world where money is necessary, however I do no place my value in its grasp therefore I would never do anything that would risk my self-respect and peace of mind.
